As Christians, we believe that Jesus has triumphed over death, and that therefore we don't need to be afraid of dying. However, this doesn't mean that we won't feel intense emotions when we lose a loved one, or face death ourselves. When we gather to farewell a loved one who has died, we can feel overwhelmed by loss, shock and grief. God's love is steadfast, and his tender care comforts, strengthens and holds us as we grieve. A funeral service aims to strengthen our assurance of this. It also gives us an opportunity to remember and celebrate the life and legacy of the person who has died.

A funeral at Saint Mark's will offer comfort to family, friends and other mourners, the commendation to God of the person who has died, and the committal of the body for burial or cremation.

We will work with you to ensure the service honours your loved one in a personalised and meaningful way.

After the funeral

Returning to the family home after the death of a family member can be very difficult. We can offer a service to honour and ease this difficult transition, and to reflect the continuing care for the family's well-being as they take up their life again. The service takes place as soon as possible after the funeral service.

Other post-funeral services include prayers at the anniversary of a death, the committal of ashes after a cremation, or the unveiling of a memorial.
