Interior and Exterior

As the Chruch was consecrated prior to the formation of the New Zealand Anglican Church, the St George Cross is normally flown daily. Saints Day's and other days of particular significance see alternative flags flown.

The rear graveyard of the church. Once this area (as was the front of the church) hosted memorials and tombstones dating back to 1847. During the 1960's, due to continuing deterioration, the gravestones and memorials were relocated creating a lawn area which characterises the grounds of St Mark's.

Those gravestones still in good condition were transferred and sit adjacent the memorial Wall at the rear of the church

This is the oldest part of the church and dates back to 1847. This door leads into the Vestry at the rear of the Church

The Parish Centre as viewed from the main driveway. Note again the park-like grounds that once housed gravestones and memorials to the 900 souls buried about the Church. The doors from the Parish Centre open onto a wide porch then flow down to the grassed graveyard.

The Parish Centre main entrance is off Remuera Rd and is surrounded by carparking. The building houses the Parish Office, a modern hall and lounge area, a commercial kitchen as well as meeting rooms. There is ample disabled persons access to all levels.

The Lychgate sits beside the Parish Centre and leads to a path toward the main entrance of the Church.

The Organ Console and Choir Stalls are situated in the South Transept adjacent to the Chancel Step.

Stained Glass Windows

There are 19 stained glass windows in St. Mark's including the two pictured below. The book "Windows of Saint Mark's Remuera" compiled by Hilary Reid that provides an illustrated history and description of the stained glass in the church.

The East Window. On the left is St. Mark our Patron Saint and on the right the Blessed Virgin Mary both looking towards the central figure, the risen, ascended and glorified Christ. This particular window replaced the original in 1935 after it was destroyed by fire.

The Merritt Window. The left window depicts Matthew and Luke (the Ox). The right window depicts Mark (the Lion) and John (the Eagle). With the central window showing Christ and a depiction of the first Parish Church of St. Mark's.
